Political Fails of the Week: 8/20 – 8/24

This is what I thought were the best political stories, or just plain fails, that made me chuckle this week.

Monday 8/20:

I laughed at first, then I’ll admit I cried a little after reading the story about what happened to our tax payer dollars that went into ‘Solyndra’.  Turns out some of it is now “modern art.” I cringe when I hear those words.  It usually means a bunch of garbage stacked into a pile, and is called a “sculpture.”  Most of it is hideous, but you gotta admit it is kind of amazing, or sickening if you prefer, how millions of dollars turns into some okay looking art.

Tubes manufactured by Solyndra now “modern art.”

Tuesday 8/21:

During the First Friday Festival in downtown Phoenix, AZ, a woman was confronted by a city official and told to stop giving out free water bottles. Why? Because she didn’t have a permit. That’s right, she wasn’t selling them, she was giving them away. Free.  I’m sure that along with the permit she probably also needed a food handlers card.  This just shows how brainless our government is.

This just goes back to all the ridiculous stories in the news in the past few years about the government shutting down the only income families have because they missed a step in maze of paperwork or permits.  Let’s not forget the pathetic attempts at shutting down kids lemonade stands.  Here in Olympia, WA you can’t sell pre-cooked food, that’s pre cooked food, you know that can’t hurt anyone even if you ate it cold, without a permit, business license, and food handler cards.  Even for a one or two day fundraiser.

Common sense is obviously gone in this country.  Which is bad because I believe all you need to survive in life is common sense.  Well that and a work ethic.  But let’s not get carried away.  If everyone had those we wouldn’t need the government.

Wednesday 8/22:

So we all know that liberals aren’t really the brightest group of people.  Give them a simple question or word to spell and the blow it every time.  On Wednesday, Obama made a stop at OSU in Ohio and the president and three others made a nice attempt at spelling a brain-twisting word. Ready?  OHIO.  That’s right Ohio, I mean I had to look up the word just to spell it in this post.

Below was their first attempt, which ended fantastically.

First attempt at spelling Ohio

But let’s be fair they did try again and this time succeeded.

Finally, they got it.

Thursday 8/24:

Atheists targeted a high school football coach in Madison, Wisconsin because he dared to allow churches to feed the players, because it is “unconstitutional.”  Oh, come on!  What is wrong with these Freedom From Religion morons. According to the FFRF:

“Taking public school football teams to church, even for a meal, is unconstitutional,” FFRF attorney Andrew Seidel wrote in a letter to the district. “This program is an egregious violation of the Establishment Clause and must cease immediately.”

Let’s go back to the Constitution and see what it says about feeding kids.

Amendment 1:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof…

Nothing about feeding kids.  However it does basically say, congress shall not create a national religion or interfere with religion and religious expression.  There is actually no phrase stating seperation of church and state in the constitution.  That term was taken out of a letter from Thomas Jefferson to the Dansbury Baptist’s who had concerns that the constitution would constrict Christianity.  Jefferson told the Dansbury baptist’s:

…that the legitimate powers of government reach actions only, & not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should “make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,” thus building a wall of separation between Church & State…

Speaks for itself. State has to stay out of the church.

Friday 8/25:

Is the Obama campaign getting a little desperate?  It seems they sent out the same email to supporters six times.  My theory is that they could just be  running their campaign like the government and have six people doing the same job, and none of them know what the other five are doing.  Not very news worthy but still pretty funny.

Full story at TheBlaze

By the way. Doesn’t Obama kinda look like Tony Montana?

You know maybe I’ll do this every week.
